Marin, thanks for the suggestion. I'm trying to avoid steam bending (no equipment, no expertise), but your approach sparked an idea: using some extra nylon skin material to make a sling that would stretch from stringer to stringer. Sort of a mini hammock for your feet. This would be a low weight, low tech solution to avoid having one's heels stretch the outer skin.

I'll be trying this on the next boat (too late for the one I'm working on right now).
