Indeed this is a "proper large object" carrying system although I do say so myself !The cradle at the back swivels 360 degrees.The wooden rack splits in half down the middle so I don't have to lift the monster too high over that side pad.The picture shows an extreme level of use at 70 kg all up.
We pay through the nose for our fuel in NZ although this car is an inter cooled turbo diesel with 17 km/liter and also past 400,000 km.
The main reason I put covers on my kayaks what ever way up they happen to be is to save a considerable amount of fuel.The covers are known as "fuel savers"here.The rain accumulation is a minor second reason and it needs to be absolute torrents for hours to be a worry.
