: I have been haunting forums regarding fuselage style SOF kayaks,
: specially the Blandford designs. Well as luck has it I found a
: dusty Copy of the Easi-Build series on "How to Build a
: Kayak" by Brann. I've had it buried away since the 70's I
: think.

: I am researching building a kayak for my young daughters,
: http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthread.php?150527-Considering-SOF-double-paddle-canoe-or-kayak-opinions
: ,I hope links to other forums is acceptable,if not please
: delete.

: Someone recommend I drop by here and he sure was right.

: I am planning on a simple SOF kayak for my young daughters. They
: are 8 and 10 and smaller girls and I wat some size for them to
: grow into the boats. The mission is for fun day paddling on
: prairie and mountain lakes and big safe rivers here in western
: Canada. The water is cold, the lakes are not big but we get
: serious wind here with little warning. We are in Calgary and
: close the east slope of the Rockies.

: I have the particulars for this set of plans which include
: full-size frames. I am hoping folks could give me a guess on its
: suitability for girls as they grow from 80#s to maybe 125#s. It
: is a v hull and looks like a pretty good imitation of a
: Blandford boat.

: Key measurements from the canvas line and does not include any
: external parts like rub strips or keels. Length 14'3", beam
: 24", deadrise at center 1 3/4", stem height 11",
: waterline beam at deadrise 21 1/2", height amidship from
: canvas to gunnel 9 1/2". The stems are straight and lean
: forward about 6"s so the wet length is fairly long, the
: keelson is flat. The hull is symmetrical and the deck is flat
: with a gentle curve and a large rectangular opening.

Sorry, my biggest concern is the height of this boat, would a reduction of an inch amidship and 2" at the stem ruin the boat for my smaller girls or improve the kayaks?
