I'm in the same boat (pun intended). I have an ill fitting skirt for my Guillemot L. I plan on using sandy beach with about 3 feet of water with a friend as a spotter to learn to roll. Last year I was using wet entries in warm, shallow water, to learn to at least survive getting wet in the best of conditions. Courses are available from kayak stores, or you can go cheap like I have and learn stuff on YouTube and in books. Search Youtube for "Wet entry" and "Kayak techniques".
