Thanks Bob, I've read that webpage before. The slot works fine with pie slice fins which only rotate so far, but, try as I might, it won't work with a foiled fin.

There is a serious lack of beaches around here, the coastline is very interesting, with steep rocky shores and trees down to the shoreline in many places, rocky islands, etc. I am not worried about sand in my shoes. I find the moulded in skeg boxes and skeg arrangements in commercial boats, on the whole, to be crude and oversized gashes in the boats. I would rather not install a skeg than replicate one of them.

There do seem to be a very few nice ones about, but unless I can see one in the flesh first...., I don't want to buy blind. It is fun to puzzle out a homemade one that is nicer than a bought one too.

There have been some skeg threads on this forum which I follow with interest. the rope and bungie one was particularly user friendly, but also pie slice. One of these days one of us is going to come up with the optimum skeg design and we will all adopt it universally (except for the SOFers of course), unless a commercial one appears on the scene that makes it too easy to be lazy.
