Yes, it's nylon 1000d Cordura. Quite stiff. I don't have alot to compare it to, this being my second boat built. It is pretty stiff fabric. I used this stretching technique and it worked very well. I completely soaked the fabric when I stretched it and it made it much more pliable. At first I had some bulges near the keel I thought would never come out, but the wet stretching worked. I ended up with only 2 darts - one on each side of the cockpit. The boat is 10 foot by 28 inches wide.
I did some tests with a scrap of fabric - nylon mason line, 1/4" dowel through the fabric, wrapped the line around the shank of a screwdriver and pulled like I didn't care... finally the line broke. The fabric did not tear at all. In fact the holes closed back up and you couldn't even tell they were there.
The lighter fabrics are easier to sew, I'm sure, but are they this tough? I don't know, guess I'll have to buid another boat...
