Just helped a neighborhood kid make some "sliding gloves" for use with his long board. He showed up with a nylon(?) cutting board which we cut up and heated/melted to bond to the gloves. Easy to work with and I assume if I boil it, it would soften enough to bend to the shape of the bow. Plus It's cheap. Anyone used a cutting board or some other plastic?

Yes, wood will work and that is what I have used in the past. They just start to looking bad and so I looking around at other options.
