I'm not entirely sure what a sheer strip is. It sounds like a strip (1/4" wide?) that is fastened to the inside of the hull projecting above the sheer line to meet the deck shaped to provide a gluing surface in contact with the underside of the deck. For the Petrel, that's about 15 degrees within about 2 feet of either end.

Have I understood correctly?
