The total price difference (for the kayak, not the board) is only $4 more for clear cedar vs. pine. I think I'll do cedar for my daughters kayak. I may use a canvas painter's tarp for skinning my son's kayak. Harbor Freight has one that is the right size for under $7. I could also check Home Depot for discounted outdoor paint. If I go that route, and using scrap plywood, that I have laying around, my son's kayak should come in well under $50.
