: Not knowing the hull I'd go for two or three strips of 4mm instead of one
: hunk of 12mm. The CLC Arctic Hawk kit uses two strips of 4mm I believe
: with a little fillet next to that. The problem I have with a chunk of wood
: for a sheer clamp is that it is less flexible than just the glassed hull
: so that whatever curve the hull has near the ends will be affected by a
: thicker stiff sheer clamp. This may not be as much of an issue if your
: hull is built around some forms. If it's a four panel s&g I'd definately
: go with the strips of 4mm.

Softwood sheer clamps bend really easily, specially light weight woods like red cedar. These arn't big pieces.

The glassed hull is plenty stiff enough to resist these pieces, specially at the ends were the bends are slight.
