: I too have a converted 4x8 utility trailer with an extended (actually
: replaced) tongue. Mine is one of those built in the Ozarks of all angle
: iron, pretty strong, though a tad crude. I added Yakima risers and
: crossbars for support, and will hull risers (carries the boats on their
: sides) can easily carry 4.

: Only problem is now I have too many boats and need to add a second tier :)

Thank you for the information!.. I looked at utility trailers yesterday at Lowe's and Tractor Supply and it looks like I can get a 4x6 oor 4x8 for under $500. I was thinking of attaching 2" stock cross bars to mount the kayaks on. For saddles I was thinking these eurosaddles which are designed to mount the kayak upright and the saddle pieces, two for each end conform to the bow and have straps built into them. They're a bit pricey, though, at $139 through Magneta. I think I could only mount two across w/ this method so I'm not sure about this. The side mounts you mentioned, do they mount to a tubular bar? Are the the composite ones I have seen that also have the straps built in? The appealing characteristic of the eurosaddles is that the flexible craddle seems to touch the whole bow rather than just a portion which seems to me to lessen the probability of marring. I'm open to suggestions! Also, if I opt for a 4x6, do you think I would mount my cross bars on each end of the bed and not the lead bar on the tongue? One last question: What length of tongue would be appropriate for a 17' kayak?
