: Robert, I am so excited to hear someone else is building a Solace 17EX. I
: have had my kit sitting (waiting...for me to get off my...) in the garage
: for a few years now. I would like to get started on it. Since you will
: have first hand experience with the kit, (via Kieth) could I use you as a
: source of enlightenment when the questions come? (I know they will, this
: is my first build.)

You sure can. I have actually build two Lightning 17's and hope to build a WD tandem within the next couple of years. Once I complete the NH S&G project then I will start two strippers simultaneously: a low-deck version of the Night Heron and a Glen Smith design that I started 4 years ago. Both stripper designs were delayed until now because of my divorce, which was a done deal last year. If you have the panels glued perfectly...and I mean perfectly, no misalignments...then you can have the hull tied together in one day or one weekend if you take your time. Be sure not to make any moves until you feel absolutely certain that you know what you are doing. The WD kits are cut perfectly and, if aligned exactly, will give you a beautiful kayak every time.

: All I have done so far is "glueing" the puzzle joints together for
: the hull and deck. I'm hoping that if I hear the progress of someone else
: build of the same thing I will be inspired to follow along.

Keith is very excited to have the kit. I tried to talk him into building Nick's Petrel but Keith was too impatient to cut his own panels so he got the kit. Personally, I am excited to work on another WD project, it's an easy build and a good reminder of of building skills as I work on the NH S&G project.

: Glad to hear the NH S&G is coming along fine. I've been helping a friend
: restore his 1968 Coranado 25 sailboat. Built the galley and electrical
: panel. WAY more work than I thought when I said yes to helping. Every
: weekend for the last couple of months and on and off during the winter. No
: time left for work or my projects. Oh well, what else is new.

Hee! Hee! Any restoration is guaranteed to be more work than initially thought. It would be nice to see pics of the restoration if you can post them. You can either send me a private email when you need help on the Solace or post messages here. I am sure it would be helpful for others if the messages were posted here since I am positive that there are lurkers looking to learn to build one of Nick's or someother's kayaks.
