In Response To: Epoxy: mold release question (Scott Shurlow)

: This in relation to a SOF Wee Lassie and the rub strip I intend to use. A
: recent post showed how to use kerfs to bend a 1/2 inch piece of wood. We
: figured out that filling it with epoxy would be strongest. I would be
: molding the rub strip after the boat is skinned and coated to make a
: perfect fit. I would not want to epoxy the strip to the boat however. This
: is the only time I would be using epoxy and mold release, so I don't want
: to buy anything for a one time use. My idea would be to put saran wrap on
: the boat and covering it with butter to create a mold release.
: Would the saran wrap and butter work?

Hi Scott

You don't need any mold release if using a film.

some of that 6 inch wide streatch plastic film that they use at Menards to put pieces of lumber together at the check-out works. or I believe that it's the saran wrap brand works too...cover the area You want to fit to...the plastic film will peel off the epoxy when done and cured....(make sure You don't have any wrinkles in the film)...otherwise car wax will work(5 layers and buffed between)...even better to spray with PVA after waxing and buffing.....

Best Wishes
Roy
