Why damage the old boat? If you don't like it, clean it up and sell it.

If you built the first boat, do you still have the patterns or plans?

It sounds like you want a lighter version of a design you like.

It would be far faster and easier to make flat panels from edge-glued 1/8 inch cedar strips and use those to remake your boat s&g fashion from the original plans.

Glass it inside and out. And be stingy with the resin use for sealing the wood before glassing it.
