Whenever tool buying advice is asked, it always boils down to price vs. usage.

You stated that you are buying this to work on a canoe and do some joints. After that, will it sit on a shelf for years unused? If that was me, I might buy one at Harbor Freight for $39. If you have a lot of money to throw around get the Porter Cable. I have a 40 yr old Craftsman 3/4 hp and it still works perfect.
