: Right. The problem is that that would mean steam bending 28 pieces of bamboo.
: If I can think of a way to build this kayak Yost style, I'll go for it.

: Looking at the diagram, it appears as though Yost cross sections at

: Going after this as a first SOF (and first kayak since the Night Heron is
: stalled) is a really, really bad idea. I can't resist though. Any help

What if I wanted to use bamboo? I'm interested in the use of bamboo in kayaks. Elsewhere in this forum you can read that using bamboo is a bad idea because it won't hold shape or is susceptible to decay, but it does have some properties that should be good (some strength test showed much higher numbers than wood and it's quite a bit lighter).

What is this material, carbonized edge laminated bamboo? Googling it produces links to bamboo plywood. Is that it? Cut the plywood in strips 1" wide and bend them using steam (Carbonized refers to the steaming of the bamboo and I understand edge lamination. However, all materials I found were then laminated sheets on top of each other forming plywood.)? Or is this something different?

Given that bamboo is also sold as bundles of 1/2" or 1/4" poles in 8' length, why not use it for stringers as well?

Other than growing bamboo in my backyard, I don't really have much experience with it as building material. Appreciate any insights into what this is and where I might get it here on the East Coast.
