: I've been avoiding it ... but the more boats and stuff I build ... the more
: it seems a planer would be worth while. I rarely work with stock more than
: 6 inches wide or 2 inches thick ... any planer will handle that ... but
: I'm always working with stuff between 1 inch and 3/16 inch thick.

: So ... recommend me a planer!

I have used the Makita Portable and I bought the Rigid on a impulse for planing 4"x6" x20' beams, both work great. There is a review in Fine woodworking or Fine Homebuilding. Used stuff is out there due to the slow down but I'm in the building business and in the city there are lots of stolen tools,I've been hit. I have not bought a open market used tool yet but have been approached many times. The tool repair shops have stuff people do not pick up also.
