People have found that the plywood 'scraps' which are left after cutting out the building forms are perfectly shaped to cradle the completed hull. Skip the middle form, but use the pieces from the forms on either side. These can be bolted to 2x4s which can rest directly on top of the car, or attach to some other frame. Use contact cement and/or staples to attach some padding or carpet material to protect the roof of the car and the bottom of the boat.

Your bow and stern lines are important no matter what kind of rack you buy or make. Find some way to attach eyebolts under the bumper, engine compartment, trunk, etc. so you'll have convenient and secure tie-down spots.
