: I'm not sure who built this frame they are closer then 12" together, my
: idea is to rebuild the frame laminating gun whales, deck beams, and ribs.
: I have got quite a lot of experience working with wood and will be
: stripping with hand dried maple, pine, and inlays of blood wood, and a
: purple wood i think onaki or something similar. I should have started with
: this write up instead of the one sentence on the top. Here is another
: concern, going to be using wood that is not long enough for one strip,
: planning to inlay design even below water line now I have read about
: sandwich core construction and seen a couple notes on here stating that
: scarf jointing is not a real gain in strength compared to a but joint with
: the epoxy fiber glass laminated wood this still be true if your but joint
: was oriented near to each other vertically the lamination was going to be
: pic of a whale spouting on sides and a tribal design on top.
: Thanks again
: Joel Franklin
: P.S.
: I must also thank everybody on the sight for all the past reading and info
: since I've been reading info for about a year. No way, I would have
: imagined all the info you all are willing to impart on all of us, I
: actually feel confident in this undertaking.
: Thanks Again

Try cutting the purple wood, if it turns tan when cut then gradually returns to the purple color it might be purpleheart. Pretty but very dense wood that's very heavy.
