: I am a first time kayak builder, and am interested in building the 10' little
: Auk. I bought and read "The Strip Built Sea Kayak" but did not
: remember seeing much direction on reducing the size of the 17' boat that
: the book lays out. It mentions changing the spacing of the forms, is it
: that easy? If I am thinking of it right it will change the shape of the
: boat slightly? I have the forms for the 17' boat drawn in CAD, will these
: work for the 10' Auk as well?

In a word, No. The 10 footer has a beam of 28" the full size version (17') has a beam of 24". Have to get the bouyancy somewhere, if you reduce the length that much it has to get both wider and deeper or the person paddling it has to get much smaller. Nick sells plans for the 10 footer btw and the dimmensions are on his web site. Not always a great idea btw to try to build from the plans in a book, specially for the first build.
