Redwood is very beautiful under glass and varnish.

I stopped using it because it is very soft and brittle.

The brittleness is a problem in milling especially if you will use bead and cove
where the redwood will tear and split.

The softness of redwood does not support fiberglass as well as other woods.
Redwood allows more dents and deep scratches as impacts crush the underlaying wood.
I've found more delamination problems with redwood too.

So it's best if you don't use redwood on your hull bottom.

The very consistent dark color really absorbs a lot of heat from the sun so be
aware of potential overheating issues on decks.

Allow your pine or other woods to dry as long as possible and sticker the boards
(stack the boards with 3/4" X 3/4' X 4' sticks between layers and air spaces all around) to speed drying.
When the boards have dried, pick through the boards noting that some will be lighter in weight.
Those are the boards to use for your boat.

All the best,
Rob
