I prefer a keyhole cockpit. Your knees are still under the deck for any leverage you might need there and you get easy access too. While not as cool as an open cockpit it still affords some air circulation you won't get sitting in a little round hole which is important consideration for Florida paddling.

I also think the small opening is for people that have a solid roll. Anyone else (like me) should probably stay away from them.

As for refitting for a keyhole? I'm not sure you can use the same type of riser that you used to make a keyhole shape .
