Like others, I would suggest you try to use the small cockpit. It should be quite easy to get in - extend paddle to ground or bottom, sit aft deck (I sit on my paddle), slide in while holding the paddle to kayak with your hands and that's it. Remember to keep your weight partially on the paddle so you just can not capsize. Another way is to lower your kayak paraller to shoreline, extend paddle and hold it to kayak, sit to the kayak's aft deck while it's so close to shore that it'll touch bottom as you put weight on it. You have slight V-bottom so the kayak will sit there heeled but steadily on it's bottom panel. You could also just sit to kayak as it's half way on ground and push yourself to water. Works well on soft ground and pretty much only way to launch if there's bigger waves.

And so on... There's many way's to get inside kayak. I don't think small opening would make things more difficult, I think it's pretty much the same.

: Got to spend a couple of hours in Wren today. I am amazed my first design
: behaves so well. Not much wind, but a few gusts and just no signs of
: weather cocking at all.

: Question. Anyone ever enlarge an existing cockpit? I am not going to rush
: into this but I finding the OC difficult to get in and out of. I don't
: think cutting it out larger around the existing one should be a problem.
: Just have to be careful and go slow.

: I know I will get better in time but I dumped the boat twice getting in. That
: at the bank! Rather embarrassing. Also to my surprise I am finding the
: width a snug fit and I am not big hipped by any means. Plus I could use a
: couple more inches of length for my legs when entering. I am really like
: the deck up close. Thats my favorite part. I am just wondering if an
: UP-sized OC wouldn't be more comfortable.

: I won't do anything any time soon, just curious if any has done this. I want
: to give this a fair shot first.
