I use a 2' wide table with 2X4 framing, works for me. The one thing I've not seen in the above posts is to leave a lip on the table so you can use clamps to hold your panels and battens down during the lay out and cutting process. Use OSB or whatever is cheapest and cut your panels with a circular saw right on the table. for me this is easier to control than a saber saw and it leaves a smoother edge.
