Thanks for all the encourgement. Here's how the popoff deck would work: I would do a SOF frame that would fit into the larger opening. It would have gasket material around the perimeter. Holes on the insert would match-up to holes in the cockpit and I would marry the two with some type of pin system. I'm thinking a powder blue 4oz dacron would look good.

For pins I thought of zip ties. I think I've settled on brass screw posts from Lee Valley. I am getting ready to strip the row of holes directly under the coaming; there will be a hardwood "washer" inlayed every 12". More on that later.
