For our moving water play boats, we use bash plates made of epoxy soaked matting -- much stronger than the brass, protects a much larger area and slides over rocks that metals will stick on. It also weighs more and is ugly (or utilitarian looking)in comparison. I don't even notice it anymore. Depends on your usage if this is a good option or not.
