Hi Scott,
I've used PVC piping as a chamber for steaming ribs, coamings, etc. and PVC softens dramatically at those temps. I bed the pipe in sand or the stove insulation stuff. It keeps the heat in and lessens the deformation of the pipe.

For any rigidity in PVC pipe, it needs to be thick walled or large diameter. It can be done with about 1 inch but it really needs reinforcement. Some have used doweling pushed into the piping to stiffen it as well as for connections, but it makes for a very heavy frame.
Maybe it might work in a Yost hybrid.
