: Hi Bill,

: I decided to go with the Folbot pontoons and I will give a report after I
: receive them. They seem to be very rugged and have sufficient volume. I
: e-mailed the company telling them how I planned to retrofit my yak with
: their system and they give me individual prices for each item which
: includes pontoon bladders, pontoon shells, 1 1/4" dia. aluminum tube,
: black sea teak mount, all for only $127. It sounds like a steal. This
: probably doesn't include the mounting of the aka to a kayak, which I don't
: need. But if I remember right the complete system in their online catalog
: was about $250. And the shell comes in several colors. The Hobie pontoons
: with the complete system runs about $145. Either would be quite good for
: your camera shooting stability and not loosing you camera in the water as
: is my concern also.

: I’m in the process of mounting my new Ritchie compass. It will mount
: underneath the front deck so it won't interfere with things I am carrying
: with the deck bungees. This Ritchie S-53G has a 12 volt light so I am
: planning on fitting a model airplane battery holder 8/AA on the back of
: the compass rack for the 12 volts.

Hi John,

Never heard of anyone mounting one under the deck, that's different :)

You could also use the power for running lights, friend has them on his production boat using LED's mounted into commercial running light shells, pretty bright, good if you tend to paddle in areas with heavy powerboat traffic in the dusk when our kayaks virtually disapear.

I just paddle really close to shore where they can't go :)
