Paul you make beautiful illustrations, which make this system of building very easy to understand. I saved all the info you posted. Here are some problems I think I see.

Weight. The side water tight compartments in my small yak were built from thin plywood roughly 5/32” x 4’x 8’ you buy at any lumber yard for less then $10 and I was surprised just how heavy this plywood was. So while not excessive it all add up.

Leak Proof. Since you have to have an opening on top to get the bulkhead inserted into the pontoon it would have to be sealed in some way.

Fastening to the AKA. This looks hard to do with this foldable setup to be safe in rough conditions and without more weight being added for some kind of reinforcements.

Collapsible. That is good but the air bladder system would even be better in that it could pack into nooks and crannies that the boy scout system couldn’t, and the bladder system wouldn’t weigh as much.

But this scout system looks good for making an asymmetrical pontoon that doesn’t fold up, all out of plywood. With one side of 1/8” plywood and the other side say of ¼” the bulkhead would spring the pontoon into the asymmetrical shape, (one side pretty straight, the other side more curved). For sailing this may eliminate the need for a leeboard to prevent side slippage.

Here is a picture of a boat with a Hobie sail and Folbot blow up bladder pontoons. As I understand it Folbot is extra rugged in that it is a bladder with a cover shell over it. Folbot says it blows up with a few puffs, I doubt that. I think Folbot has the only blow up AMA's that has a cover over the bladder for extra toughness. I think I'll order these Monday. Thanks for the new idea Paul.
