: It is now a few years after this original post for a very cool latch idea.
: When I build my next boat I would like to use this system. Are there any
: long term users of this system that would care to give an update on how
: well it works in conditions like playing in the surf?

I've used the mobies for a few months now and have 2 comments: I'm another one that needs to find better gasket material as the "closed cell foam" weatherstripping I bought soaks up water. Second, make sure your mobies are built strong enough. I broke one so will have to repair that in the off season (a webbing strap works well as an emergency repair). I made my mobies out of some mahogany-like plywood left over from a crate some equipment at work came in. It was 4mm thick (I think), a bit over 1/8" and I did not reinforce with fiberglass. I further weakened the mobies by enlarging the gap in order to squeeze my bungies through, creating a weak point which is where it broke.

They are easy to put on & hold well. I use a webbing cinch strap as a measure of security on the highway.

Cheers,
Bryan
