damn dave that's good. Just think of the weight savings if the sheerclamps were 1/2"x3/4"? By eliminating bronze screws, reducing the size of the sheerclamp, switching to 4mm for the bulkheads and coaming, replacing 3" tape with cloth,eliminating unnecessary webbing/fastek buckles for hatch closures, making a flush hatch design that didn't require more wood, etc. they could be making a lighter kayak(with a few changes in handling)and cheaper kit...
