Builders have learned a lot over the years and it's not necessary to use 3" tape for the seams or to use 9 oz. I use a two inch on the inside 6oz. - finished for ease of application. On the outside I use 4 oz. cloth cut into strips - no finished edge. When you join the deck and hull sand a gentle taper (not extreme) to the hull and deck edges so it will get filled with an epoxy joint as you wet it out from the inside or however you do it. That epoxy connection is plenty strong in itself. Sand the inside joint areas of the hull and deck where the tape is being applied for a good clean bond (no blush).
