Yeh, I thought about putting it a good size battery in the boat, for no better reason than ballast. My boat is getting a little top heavy with all the reenforcements I've installed. Derek Hitchinson recomends installing a ballast tube for photographing from kayaks. He velcros a PVC tube down with lead strips inserted, claims it works out just great, the boat just snaps itself back up

I have a 2sqft area directly behind my seat due to the mast placement. I could put it there but I would rather have electrical devices installed in a separate compartment for obviouse reasons. I would also want it installed where I could easily pull it out to lighten the boat for portage.

Good thing gell cells are sealed batteries ( for those on the BB used a sealed battery otherwise if you roll the boat the acid could eat a hole in the boat! not to mention explosive gases )

Keep in mind that an ATV battery could drastically effect your CG and the way the boat steers. I'll actually use mind to readjust the CG after all the reinforcements are finished.

Batteries are a good idea in my mind for any lengthy voyage.
