Taping edges of back rest

I have built a 6" x 14" curved backrest out of the same stripping as my Panache. Each of the two sides has three coats of resin and one layer of 6 oz cloth. The back rest is curved to fit the shape of the back and fairly ovalized in shape. One side will be fitted with 1" closed cell foam and the back side will be just varnished with the rest of the boaat. My Question is, after I glassed both sides I then cut out the ovalized shape with a scroll saw so I know have the bare ceder exposed, so I put a coat of resin on this but wondering if I should also put some 6 oz cloth on the edges.
