I have had good results with Tung Oil. I usually put on seven or eight coats in the beginning and then a coat every once in a while, whenever I remember. I use the "pure tung oil" type. "Tung oil finishes" are mostly a mixture of tung oil and varnish or basically a wiping varnish.
