It’s not a good idea to mix softwood and hardwood since they sand at very different rates which could leave you with a rippled surface.

I suggest you consider using northern white cedar on your hull bottom which will make stripping there as easy as possible. Northern white cedar is one of, if not the most, flexible softwoods allowing it to be twisted and tacked to the bottom of strippers more easily than any other wood.

I use only 3/16” thick strips which makes any wood easier to strip since thinner wood will be more flexible.

And if your wood is thinner and more flexible it will be easier to make certain all your strip edges are aligned which will reduce sanding fairing and speed every other step of the work process.
