I'm here to ask questions, Duane, as I don't have much experience either. One source I'm using suggests using "house paint", and using two finish coats instead of using a base coat and a finish coat, and a book on Greenland kayak building suggests using house paint mixed with linseed oil. I also got the same advice from one of the correspondents on this site, and I think that's the way I'll go. Can anyone tell me what proportion to mix the linseed oil into the paint?

Looks like I'll be getting my kayak done about the time the pond freezes over...(you know, the pond in Hell.)

Let us know how it works out.
