This is from Greg Redden's Sea Fever Kayaks website. I think it is a neat shot that shows his nice use of plywood for frames for a skin kayak.

With plywood frames there is a trade off between strength of the frame, and how big a hole you can cut in the middle of it. This is particularly important nearthe center of the boat as you will want to poke your feet through the centers of some frames.

With steam bent, or laminated ribs supporting the stringers you would have more leg room, and might be able to put the seat an inch lower, giving you a lower center of gravity and an increase in stability. Access to the ends of the boat, for stowing gear, would be easier, too, I think.

Hmmm, I may be talking myself into a new venture here. Anyone have simple plans for a steamer?
