: Sounds like you're considering varnishing the inside prior to joining the
: hull and deck? I suppose you could do that, but you'll end-up having to
: sand some off to do the inside seam and add bulkheads (assuming you use
: the wooden kind). To me, this sounds like too much work, and I'd suggest
: varnishing after the halves are joined. In which case, there's not a big
: rush to varnish the interior. You could do it at your leisure after you've
: paddled a bit.

Thanks Ross

I varnished prior to joining my exped and it worked okay I just stopped a little short of the tape line and scufffed up around the bulkheads. I am worried about a post join varnish on this boat because it is so tight that it would be hard to get varnish into all the areas, but I think it is possible. I am all for putting it off until later.

I am not worried about the sun but about the pinholes. Raka suggests five coats for it to be totaly waterproof.

Thanks

Tom

: As an aside, I've never varnished the inside of any of my kayaks. They just
: don't get much sun in there. There's either a paddler in the way or
: there's a cockpit cover in place. However, I am reconsidering this
: decision in light of the reports by Nick and Jay about pinholes in
: epoxy-only coating leading to water damage. I haven't seen this yet, but I
: don't want to either.
