Goooooood Morning John,
Roger all that. Having a head full of knowing how to read weather is really important to safe paddling

For sea kayaking, the weather radio has an andvantage on telling me what is what farther out. Both the Canadians and the US have weather buoys set up 500 miles off both of their coasts. Knowing what is happening at Frying pan shoals helps me understand how the marine and coastal weather are interacting. It gives me a way of looking at where the power centers are in the local region and thus what is being pumped out and in what directions.

The off shore Buoys also have entertianment value. The Candians still use real voices. US weather service has gone to a machined voice. In any case, on my most recent trip. I loved listening to that oh so lovely woman's voice on Weather Canada out of Point Alberni say the name of one of the off shore bouys. "At La Parrusse Banks the weather will be ...." (off Vancover Island). She strung out the Parusse part. Wow What a voice. :) Her voice is so pretty that my wife got to teasing me when ever I turned on the radio to get the weather for the 12th time in one day. Really it was very changeable weather....;)

I guess I am better off with MR Roboto voice here in the states say za we..ther today at Frying ...Pan ...shoals is.. . Not near as exciting (LOL) :)

Voices aside, I rely a lot on the raw data coming off those buoys. The same is true in hurricane season. If something is brewing down south I can plan my trip around whats happening. Storm tract data gives me a few days warning I need to be moving inside or even up and out.

Keep those eyes on the sky.
