: I'm about to commence building a Shooting Star. Has anyone tried using water
: resistant construction adhesive or waterproof contact cement via plastic
: syringe to bond the strips?
: Pros: Strength and rapid self-tacking properties should be favorable. Self
: clamping after a few minutes.
: Cons: Contact cement would have inadequate sheer strength? Construction
: adhesive too thick and heavy? Inadequate working time because both setup
: too quickly?

I considered using contact cement when I started my boat and I was advised not to because of creep. After building and seeing how much force stress was put on some of the hard bends I now believe the strips would have seperated in those areas. I also think you would be accidently getting a strip misalined now and then and that would be lots of trouble. Having said this, I think there are places where it can be use. I laminated a sail boat mast using contact cement and it held up for 10 years until I sold it. The mast was always flexing and under a lot of stress.

Biggest disadvantage is cost.
