Good?...not especially. OK?...probably. Poplar is about 25% heavier than Cedar. It is not readily available in lengths over 16'-0". Its color varies wildly from snow white to green, brown, and purple. It is stiffer than Cedar. It expands and contracts more than Cedar. It works well with hand and power tools. It glues well. And it's cheap.
