: This is a seat I bought at Wal-Mart in the boating section, that I will use
: this season in my yak and build a custom seat this winter. It is 18
: 3/4" wide, 16" high, weights 2 lb. and cost $6.97.

My yak is so deep that the seat only sticks up about an inch above the deck. With the coaming lip on it may be even and if I tip the seat slightly the seat will actually be even or set under the deck. Yes, this seat could be cut up and used in different ways. I have never set in a yak seat before so I won't be able to give a compairson but I will tell you how it seems to feel when I get to that point. When I get to the mounting I will be asking questions. The seat has to be taken out to get my hiking pack in and out. If the seat was raised to a 3 degree incline to meet Rehd's comfort zone then the back rest would be more then his ideal 5 degrees I think.
