For sanding the exterior of the hull (with the deck and forms still providing rigidity), two is enough. After all, it would be replacing two slings. However, when sanding the interior of the deck/hull, you're right - more is better. I used 4 cradles plus support at the very tips where the deck extended past the strongback. I'll never use slings again.
