Hi Steve,

When I bought my Wagner heat gun, made in China, I had a choice of two different kinds in the True Value hardware store. One was around $40 and the Wagner # HT1000, was about $25 as I remember. It has two heat settings but the only one listed on the gun is 1200 watts. That sound like a hair dryer but it gets very hot and will scorch your wood if you aren't careful and easily burns the wood fuzz off. It worked for me but I also use an iron, steaming, soaking, but at the end of my stripping I was slitting the strips down the middle with a utility knife where the hard bend was at. Slitting turned out to be the one that worked best for me and was the quickest. Before I glued the strip on I spread the slit and forced glue in it and then glued the strip onto the boat.
