: Has anyone else experienced cratering (also called fisheyeing), while applying the second or third coat of
: epoxy? It seems to happen only when applying epoxy over a cured/sanded epoxy coating, and I have only experienced it
: while using RAKA brand epoxy. Is it possibly a problem only with thinner epoxies?

I experienced the same "cratering" or "fisheyeing" that you mention. I also experienced it only on subsequent coats. Washing off the amine blush, sanding and following with a second wash did not seem to help. I tried recoating between 8 and 24 hours, with the same negative results. The brand of epoxy I used is "Jeffco", sold by a local fiberglass supplies retailer by the name of Crystaliner, in Costa Mesa, CA. The only solution I have found is to avoid this brand of epoxy. This is also a low-viscosity epoxy. System Three epoxy, which is much more viscous, does not exhibit the cratering problem. I have also applied warmed-up System Three (heated in hot water to make it more viscous and easier to apply) and had no cratering problems. So is it really a problem with viscosity, or are there certain brands of epoxy that are just not worth using?
