: I have built one Ches 18, 3 Ches 14, one Mill Creek 15, all with luan. I have
: learned this....all luan is not equal! Depending on the manufacturer, some
: has a lot of voids and some of it doesn't. I am fortunate in that my
: lumber yard will allow me to go through the stack and hand pick the sheets
: that I find suitable. I would not use 1/4 inch for the deck if 1/8 were
: available. I do fill all voids and pre coat with epoxey before use. I have
: not had the first problem with the luan.

Rick,

You mentioned that you fill all the voids, how do you go about doing this.

I recently picked up 6 sheets of 1/8" luan for $40 Canadian (a deal in this area, central Canada). I'm thinking this wood might look nice as a 14' Grebe ala Grant from Squeedunk Kayaks. Don't know what I'm dealing with for voids, but if there are some it would be nice to deal with them before I spend a lot of time and effort lofting and cutting only to have a panel break.

Thanks,

Ken
