I've seen Rob's magnetic hatches, they are very cool. My only concern at this point is how they will stand up to salt water over the long run. The nickel plating is not enough to give any long term corrosion protection. Anyone have any experience or specialized knowledge about the corrosion resistance of rare earth magnets.

I would strongly advise not using carbon fiber or graphite powder in proximitiy with the magnets, but beyond that... ???

Rob, have you used the Shooting Star in saltwater yet? Have you seen any sign of corrosion?

It might be worth using more magnets if you could keep them fully encapsulated in epoxy.

: I use rare earth magnets on the flush hatches of my Shooting Star kayak.
