The slot method allows clamping pressure in only one direction, perpendicular to the tangent of the hull curvature. Wrapping with tape, cable ties or bungies allows pressure against the previous strip, but not against the forms. U-blocks and wedges allow both. IMO chances are better of getting tight joints with the U-block and wedge method. Can you cut a slot deep enough to work well in forms only 1/2" think? I should think 3/4" would be necessary to prevent tearout.

: hi all;
: when i built my wee lassie i cut slots in the edges of the forms and used
: spring clamps to hold the strips while the glue dried. can anyone tell me
: why i shouldn't do the same for my spring run? forms are 1/2"
: plywood.
: the reason i ask is that nobody seems to be useing this method and i'm
: wondering why, since it worked so well for me. to give credit, the method
: is mentioned by mac mccarthy in his book.
: best regards;
