In Response To: sander justification (Matt Britschgi)

Matt, I do most of my sanding with flexible long boards (I made mine). All roughing, fairing, and epoxy sanding is done with these. The more you use them in the process the fairer the final shape will be. I have a Dewalt variable speed random oritor for sanding between varnish coats. Slowing the sander down produces less heat and gums up the sand paper less. Of course a variable speed is a little more money, thus you may need to save up some of that "tolerance and indulgence" towards it's purchase.
